The Third Ward is one of Houston’s oldest and most culturally rich neighborhoods. Located along the once thriving Emancipation Avenue, The Third Ward Innovation Center will renew the neighborhood’s drive for success. It will assist Third Ward residents by providing direct support for k-12 education, ongoing work force training and development, entrepreneurship programs, as well as opportunities for community engagement.
The center is designed to reflect the resilient, vibrant neighborhood which surrounds it. Its quiet, anonymous exterior dissolves into its surroundings, while still providing a rich, surprising interior. A passerby’s interest is piqued by the large window cut into the exterior screen system. Inside, the center promotes discovery, exploration, and interaction among visitors by connecting major public spaces. The journey through the building culminates at the top, with an incredible view of the Third Ward and downtown Houston.
